Our Commitment

The Family Islands

The LBCDC development team will have this solution as a guiding principle as it recruits and reviews possible investment proposals and opportunities for the community. Important to LBCDC is the development of people and the support of economic empowerment. The LBCDC team believes true sustainability is both environmental and personal. Creating sustainable projects and sustainable economic health for individuals in the local communities are priorities for LBCDC. The Family Islands have excellent potential for their land and their residents.

To ensure the growth and development are sustainable, LBCDC will work with the developers, local officials, and state government to carefully ensure the long-term viability and success of the project, protecting the infrastructure in every possible way. The economic impact of the development of the Family Islands would depend on various factors such as the size and scale of the project, its final location, and the ability of the local community to support and benefit from it. It is the goal of LBCDC to introduce developments that positively impact the Family Islands.

The Focus

Andros, The Bahamas

The island of Andros is the largest in the Bahamian archipelago. It is larger than all other islands of the Bahamas combined. The island is sparsely inhabited, with the latest census showing just about 7,800 residents. This land is 3,700 sq miles and is called the big yard and the sleeping giant of The Bahamas. This island has significant potential for growth, sitting just 25 miles northwest of the capital, and is easily accessible by boat or plane.

This island's population has steadily declined as local residents and high school graduates leave for employment opportunities in New Providence and other islands experiencing economic growth. In recent years, South Andros has attracted two substantive investments in its tourism industry: the establishment of the Tiamo Resort on the island's northwest end and the Caerula Mar Club on the northeast end of South Andros. LBCDC would like to continue this trajectory of introducing foreign direct capital to the island.

To this extent, LBCDC has engaged with more than twenty investors who will buy into a master development initiative that will introduce boutique hotels, a casino, luxury second homes, a marina, and a golf course, along with retail development and sales. This program to date has investment potential, based on discussions, ranging in excess of $100mil. LBCDC will continue to promote this master plan and seek to generate new avenues to promote the island as a new and exciting destination that allows for ecotourism and other development initiatives.
